There’s no limit to summertime fun in Kure Beach. Get out on the water with a guided eco-tour to Zeke’s Island Reserve. Go under the sea with a historic scuba dive to The Condor shipwreck. Beat the heat and play skee-ball, frog hop and more at Hi-Tech Arcade near the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Or, visit the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher and get eye-to-eye with the Otters on the Edge exhibit to see if the two new otter pups have made their appearance! Dine alfresco at Big-Daddy’s and share a Calabash-style seafood platter with the whole family or indulge in juicy burgers from the seasonal walkup Beach House Burgers.
Live Tunes & Sandy Grooves
Listen to live music seaside during Boogie in the Park at Ocean Front Park & Pavilion the first and third Sunday of every month through Oct. 16. Pack a picnic, bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy the free summer concerts at Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area every other Friday through Sept. 23. Nearby on the island, bring the kids to the Carolina Beach Boardwalk for live entertainment, family activities, fireworks and more every Thursday through Labor Day.
Stories, Walks & Talks
Let the little ones enjoy crafts, story time and games with the princesses and fairytale friends during Story Time by the Sea at Ocean Front Park and Pavilion every Wednesday through Aug. 17. Return to the park for family friendly activities at Up and Active! every Thursday through Aug. 18. In nearby Carolina Beach State Park, hike the half-mile and handicap accessible Flytrap Trail. Each Saturday, a park ranger leads the hike and shares info about the natural habitats in the park.

Classic, kid-friendly excursions makes Kure Beach the perfect destination for exploring. Cast a line at the historic Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Paddle out to Shark Tooth Island with rentals from Kayak Carolina and search for fossils, shells and shark teeth. Step back in time and explore the fort and see cannons used in the Civil War’s largest amphibious battle at Fort Fisher State Historic Site. Drive out on the beach at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area – four-wheel-drive only – and enjoy a day on the state park’s protected shoreline.
